All graduates of St. John’s University College of Pharmacy, Sandy Irene and his two sons, Lawrence and Robert began their careers in the late 1970's by building one of the nation's largest long-term care pharmacies. In 1989, they established a national group purchasing organization that would revolutionize the long-term care marketplace. After divesting their successful long-term care GPO in 2004, the Irenes then founded Armada Health Care to positively impact the fledgling specialty pharmacy industry. In 2016, the company consolidated all services and business solutions under the new name, Asembia.

Asembia continues to be a major catalyst for growth and collaboration within the specialty pharmacy industry.
